Waterchairs are not just therapeutic chairs for the  chair bound but are eminently suitable for private home use as a luxuriously comfortable chair.

Watercomfort Company is an Australian owned business manufacturing Australian designed and Patented water filled chairs. Watercomfort TM  have worldwide patents and export their products.

Watercomfort TM are working with the community in an effort to design comfortable therapeutic seating systems for most medical conditions (over 20 designs available). Attention is given to feedback from customers and specialists in the medical field.

All designs are regularly reviewed to see what improvements can be incorporated.

Our current philosophy is that we have met the comfort needs of the patient, and we now concentrate on features that maximise ease of use and minimise injury incidence to carer staff.

The waterchair concept originated when Ann Knox (designer and manufacturer of leather lounge furniture) was confronted with the problem of finding a comfortable chair for her infirm grandmother-in-law whom was suffering severe pressure sores. Ann discussed with her colleagues the causes, preventative care and treatment of pressure areas. From this came the idea of water filled cushions and thus the first waterchair. Within eight weeks of using the original waterchair, Ann’s grandmother-in-law’s pressure sores had healed.

“Watercomfort” TM means a patented comfort system – without pressure – with superb comfort.

If your consideration is to provide maximum comfort to your patient or family member,

you can only get it from a Watercomfort TM chair.

A correctly designed water system has the potential to solve pressure problems by supplying a non-pressure flotation support for the body. Pressure problems are relieved: Existing bed-sores caused by using other unsuitable products are able to heal faster.

The International Year of Family acknowledged the value of caring. We are concerned with the family as a whole ie. the extended family, children, parents and grandparents, whether they be living at home with the family, on their own or in an institution.

Our waterchairs not only relieve pressure and give comfort to the “patient”, but makes the job easier for the carers in preventing pressure area problems. No longer does the patient have to stay in bed all day. Even with difficult patients, carers can organise assistance to place the patient in the chair in the morning, knowing that they will be comfortable and pressure relieved all day. Also they are not restricted to one room as the carer can easily move the chair around the house, onto the balcony, into the garden etc.

There are vast numbers of previously bed-bound patients who now can relax comfortably in a waterchair. We have been told of an instance where a patient had been bed-bound for almost two years until a waterchair was purchased. Several waterchair models are suitable to be used continuously as beds if necessary but with the advantage of converting to a reclining or upright chair. These types of design are particularly an advantage in palliative care situations where the carer has no help to move the patient.

The look on patient’s faces, especially those who can’t express themselves verbally, is enough for most carers to know that they have made the right decision when purchasing a waterchair for their family member.

Testimonials include those from chronic arthritis sufferers who write to Watercomfort Company thanking us for giving them comfort for the first time in years …… sisters in nursing homes tell of permanently incapacitated patients who no longer suffer pressure sores, of patients in foetal position resting comfortably, of patients sleeping with markedly reduced medication. An amputee says that for the first time since losing his leg he has been able to sit upright in a chair instead of being lopsided. A handicapped student has been able to attend school all day instead of for just an hour or two.

People with recurring back problems have been known to sleep overnight on their waterchairs for relief of pain. The waterchairs have been a great help to kidney patients who have to spend long hours on dialysis machines, also for those physically handicapped children who often find it difficult to sit comfortably as they constantly slip down in ordinary chairs (the waterchair helps support them on each side). Waterchairs are widely used in nursing homes and hospitals, hostels, homes and schools for the handicapped and by home carers of the aged and infirm, also day surgery centres, transplant units, cancer care units, birthing centres and transfusion centres.

Quite often we hear comments “If only I’d known about your waterchair when I needed it”.

Relatives seeing other patients resting comfortably ask “Why doesn’t my mother have a chair like that? That patient looks so comfortable”.

Initial watercahir information is often provided by nursing staff, followed by a free consulting service provided by Watercomfort Company. Watercomfort staff have an obligation to ensure that each patient is provided with the most suitable style of chair which gives the maximum comfort and therapeutic benefit.

Watercomfort also have a range of watercushions.

The Carrycush model is designed for wheelchairs, but with it’s handles can be taken anywhere – restaurants, football, cricket, theatre etc.

The Slimline Cush , the lightest version folds and has the option of zippering for ease of carrying. The Travel Cush and Slimline Travel Cush are wider and have the option of a lumbar support: designed for short or long distance journeys in cars, trucks, trains, buses, planes etc.

The Swap Seat is made to take the place of a cushion from your lounge chair – supplied with or without lumbar support.
